Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation Research Advocate Application 2024

The mission of the Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is to power the future of ovarian cancer research by endowing funds and championing the POWER of scientist/survivor collaboration.
To champion collaboration, we are sending an ovarian cancer advocate to the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Academy annual retreat to be held September 18-19, 2024 in Seattle, Washington. While there, the advocate will learn about cancer research and interact with scientists, doctors, health professionals, and other advocates. Please note: for this particular opportunity, the advocate will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs.
Research Advocate Requirements/Expectations:
1. The advocate must be an ovarian cancer patient, survivor, family member, caregiver, previvor, or other person touched by ovarian cancer.
2. The advocate must be able to attend both days of the DOD Ovarian Cancer Academy retreat: September 18-19 in Seattle, WA.
3. The advocate will be required to sign and agree to the Powell-Drescher Volunteer Research Advocate Guidelines.
4. Prior to the conference, the advocate will be expected to engage in pre-conference training coordinated by the Powell-Drescher Foundation and will meet with a scientist mentor before the conference.
5. The advocate will be expected to share their experience as a representative of the Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation from selection through December 31, 2025. As such, the advocate may be asked to provide a summary of their conference experience for use on social media, the website, and/or elsewhere, to report on their ongoing advocacy activities, to speak at future Foundation presentations regarding the research advocate program, to speak about their experience at Foundation fundraising events, and/or to review future research advocate applications.
6. While at the conference, the advocate must be willing to promote the Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation and its mission.
7. The advocate may not have any conflicts of interest with a Significantly Regulated Organization (SRO), as defined by the FDA. A complete list of SROs is available here.
Application Deadline: May 31, 2024
Applications are due by midnight (PST) on May 31, 2024 to be considered for the September 2024 retreat. The applications will be reviewed for involvement in the ovarian cancer community, commitment to research advocacy, and the ability to help POWER the mission of The Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. The successful applicant will be selected from the pool of qualified candidates by an ad hoc group of scientists and/or survivor reviewers.
In an effort to provide advocacy opportunities to as many people as possible, preference will be given to applicants who have not previously been sponsored by the Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. Applicants will be notified of the Foundation's decision by June 30, 2024.
